French schooling and equivalences with other countries (FR vs USA vs UK vs PH)

The Lycée Français de Manille welcomes students from a variety of educational systems. To ensure a smooth integration, specific procedures are implemented according to each academic level.
 

To help determine the appropriate grade level for your child, please refer to the comparison chart below, which aligns French classes with the American, British, and Philippine systems.

Preschool (PS, MS, GS)

  • No entrance test required

  • Students are placed in their age-appropriate class in accordance with the French education system.


Elementary School (CP to CM2)

  • Students take a French as a Foreign Language (FLE) placement test and a math test in their native language.

  • Based on the results, a personalized support plan may be implemented, including: FLE support classes and PPRE (Personalized Program for Educational Success) for additional help in core subjects


Secondary School (Middle and High School)

  • The student’s previous academic background is carefully reviewed.

  • Entrance assessments are conducted to:

  • determine the appropriate grade level placement

  • assess FLE support needs

  • implement, if necessary, a personalized support plan such as the PPRE

⚠️ Important: Admission to the final years of high school (Première and Terminale) is only possible for students who have previously attended a French-accredited school.
